I-tip hair extensions, also known as microlink or microbead hair extensions, are a strand-by-strand extension method designed to add length, fullness, and dimension while allowing the natural hair to move in a 360 degree motion.

Each I-tip consists of a .5 or 1 gram of hair secured at the top with a narrow, cylindrical tip, made from urethane bonding material. Unlike K-tip extensions, which use heat to soften the keratin bond during application, I-tip extensions are attached using small light weight copper or aluminum cylinder beads.

During installation, a section of natural hair is threaded through a bead tool, in order to place the bead onto the natural hair. Then the I-tip extension is places inside of the bead . The bead is then carefully pressed and sealed using professional extension pliers to secure the extension in place. No heat , no tape, or adhesive is required during the attachment process.

Maintenance and Longevity

I-tip extensions require routine professional maintenance as the natural hair grows. Maintenance appointments are generally recommended every 4–6 weeks. Timing will depend on hair growth, density, shedding patterns, and the condition of the installation.

During a Move-up maintenance, each stand is move-up. The process is as follows. The beads are opened, the I-tip is removed. The bead is moved up the natural hair strands. The natural hair shed is released. Then I-tip extension is place back inside of the bead. Lastly the bead is clamped and sealed. Move-ups sessions can happen 1-2 times before you will need a take out reinstall.

Take out reinstalls, is when all hair is completely removed. Your natural hair is washed, maintenance, and prepped for a reinstall. The extensions will be reinstalled using new beads.

High-quality human hair extensions may last approximately 8–12 months with proper care, although longevity varies based on hair quality, chemical processing, heat styling, and home maintenance.
